Single Source
You will come across this expression a lot on the Imex website. It is a theme common to many of our clients as they seek to manage all their records from a single source that can be accessed in a variety of ways.
We like this. A lot. The notion of a single source is central to ECM strategy and so is central to the way we work.
Fortunately there has never been a better time to try and implement this strategy in your organisation. The applications and tools available to do this are common place and are now highly evolved.
To grossly simplify, there are two primary elements that need to be considered for your Single Source Strategy:
- The document management system, whether it is TRIM, Meridian or something else
- The presentation layer – client, web, workflow, custom application and so on
Once a record is held inside the DMS it can be accessed in a variety of ways, via client or web. This means that users can have information delivered to them in the manner that is most appropriate to their requirements, geography and skill level.
Single Source as a notion can be further extended by accessing data from custom applications via a web service such as the TRIM SDK or by adding Workflow to automate your business processes.
